Kai Nani’s handy spirt sail has been getting a serious workout of late. Serious as in sailing just off the wind in 20+ knot gusts. It makes up for hours of paddling and it’s a joy to watch the shore fly by.
For the sailors among you, here I’m flying a club-footed jib in gentle conditions doing a respectable 3 knots over the ground. The club, or foot in this case, stabilizes the leach of the sail and improves the sheeting angles. A two-fer that I bust out when Jan’s not looking to sail just slightly faster than him. As any sailor will tell you, if there’s another boat about, it’s automatically a race.
