Meet Karta, my trusty two wheel steed. This contraption is what I’m using to pull/drag/yank the canoe behind me as I walk most of the roughly 600km of portaging I must do.
I’ve made some modifications to the thing to support the weight of the loaded canoe. It also collapses into a heap and fits into a smallish bag. Sadly, it weighs 20 lbs not including the fancy harness.
The entire rig is not unlike the towing harnesses that polar explorers use to pull loaded sledges. There was some fooling around with the length of the solid fibreglass rods that connects the harness ( and me ) to the canoe.
Whether it actually works behind my own testing and training remains to be seen. I guess I’ll know for sure when the rubber meets the road…
